Testing...one, two, Tuesday!

Our second day of homeschooling was going to be a real test. I did not have to go to work on Monday, so it made the first day of school a breeze. I was a little worried about how our schedule of Mom's Work Days would work out.

God was definitely in charge! I felt brave enough to cook pancakes for breakfast (following in The Boy's footsteps the day before). While we were finishing our breakfast, we read more from Genesis. We were supposed to start Youth Prayer Breakfast this day, but I (am ashamed to say) let everyone down by not showing up (that was not planned...it just happened). It was my idea and we did not go. I feel terrible about it. But, hopefully will be able to redeem myself next week! As I finished getting ready for work, my sweet boy did his copywork from Psalms and his math lesson on his own. (Thank you, God, for blessing us)

I made it to work on time, without any stress (other than feeling terrible about missing Prayer Breakfast) and our planned pre-work goals had been met, and then some!

While The Boy was with his grandmother, he completed his Preposition Hunt from Wind in the Willows, read the assignment from Leif the Lucky, read the lesson from Mystery of History and worked all the math practice problems. YAY! That may not sound like an accomplishment to you...but for us it was miraculous. And the only time he called me at work was to tell me he had finished all his schoolwork, with time to spare! (Again, thank you, Lord)

After work, while I was eating my lunch, The Boy answered my questions from Leif the Lucky and recited his Psalm. I looked over his math problems and then we sat down and read some more Mother Goose (it really was fun to read this with him) and another chapter of Wind in the Willows. It was fun for him to remember which ones of the Mother Goose rhymes he loved as a baby, and to ask me did I sing them to him and things like that. Oh, these days just don't last long enough.... Could I have enjoyed this if he were in school? Probably not. He would be too busy doing homework and selling stuff and doing school-club business.

We finished all this and made it to the new Cool Science class he is taking at the local college. The Professor who is teaching has been very excited about it and has been preparing for weeks. The Boy had a great time and can not wait until next week. They learned about simple machines, gave a demonstration with a handmade paper whirlybird on how a helicopter works, made a screw (which is actually an incline plane wrapped around a pole), and made butter using a gear (egg beater). The butter was quite tasty!

When we got home from college (he likes that) The Boy was eager to tell Dad all about his class before they did their little geography practice. They tried to think of other things we use everyday that are actually simple machines. It was very interesting some of the ideas they had. Hmmmm. (I think Mom is a pulley)

After supper, we excitedly picked back up with Daniel X. The book has really been a hit, more so than I thought it would be. Much to my delight! Toning it down we returned to see who would be elected President of the Pet Club at the school the Happy Hollisters attend and then getting ready for a good night's sleep we went with Pooh in search of Rabbit's friend Small.

Forgive me Lord for not making it to prayer breakfast and thank you for blessing me anyway.

Tuesday's test was successful. I love my life. :-)
