Talk about a day!
We almost made it through the week without slipping. Almost. Well, we kind of did and kind of didn't. Trying to make contact with a bunch (50) of college students scattered all over the Southeast, kept Mom up too late. Just in case you don't know this: if you are trying to put together a Sunday School class for college students, many you do not know, Facebook is a wonderful ministry tool! I found 40 on Facebook and actually made contact. Wonderful. But, anyway...
After getting up to check my messages, Mom let The Boy sleep a little longer than she meant to. But, The Cow Boss was out of town, so Mom didn't have to go to work all morning. However, Mom was supposed to go to her Old Church Job and count beans for them this morning. So, after realizing it was Very Late, The Boy was roused and reminded to dress in red today to honor those whose lives were lost in 9/11/01. We really had to hustle to get ready and get to local-senior-citizen's-coffee-klatch-watering-hole so Mom could go to the Old Church. This time, Granny did not have breakfast in hand...we had to find it in a drive-in window. Did you know you can get coffee and soda for 50 cents each at BK, if you are a senior? Sometimes, it is grand to be considered a senior!
Fortunately, no math was planned for today and no history. Instead of going on a Preposition Hunt with Frog and Toad, The Boy had to write about what he wanted to be when he grows up and why he wants to be that. For the first time ever, Mom learned he wants to be a policeman when he grows up. And a toymaker. And a carmaker. Hmmm, maybe he will be a maker of toy police cars! Anyway, he correctly identified all of the parts of speech in his little story and Mom was delighted!
He read about the library from a nice little book written by a homeschool friend of Mom's. The book is Information Please by Pat Wesolowski. It is really a great book. You can buy a copy from Rainbow Resource, or maybe straight from her. It is a great study skills workbook.
Learning about Extinction was on the menu for Science today. That is actually a very interesting topic. What boy does not like to talk about dinosaurs? He was surprised to find out there are so many creatures that no longer exist and sad to know there are many who are in jeopardy. Very good lesson.
But...back to the whirlwind day. Mom worked at the Old Church Job until the New Boss called and needed her to go to the Cow Job. So, she left the church and rushed to the farm and worked a little bit and rushed back to the church. Almost forgetting she had a lunch date with Sister! After lunch, it was back to the Old Church Job for the third time today...and it was only 1:00!
Mom and The Boy were planning to meet a new (or someone not seen in a very long time)friend down the street. Even though Mom was 2 hours late picking The Boy up, it did happen. However, Mom still had to go to the New Church to decorate the college kids' Sunday School room, in preparation for the Big Event this Sunday. Just remembering it all is exhausting!
But, after a trip to Wally World for supplies to decorate with, and coming home to do a little Facebook catching up...it was nice to realize we got it all done! Dad came home and learned about extinction and then he and The Boy donned their boots, saddled their 4 cylinder horse and headed for a totally new experience: The Rodeo!
So, Mom is replaying the day:
Heifers in the morning, Bulls at night,
So many cows can be a fright.
Methodists early and Baptists late,
Beans to count, rooms to decorate.
Schoolwork's done and with that said,
This ol' Mom's headed straight for bed!
Even with the rushing about of the day, we got all The Boy's assigned work done, all Mom's business taken care of--all with no screaming or shouting , no pouting, no harsh words. (The Boy was well behaved, too! LOL)
Everyone who depended on us today, got what they were promised. Just like we depended on God to get us through the day...and He did just what He promised.
Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing our first week of school with us. If you live near me and have a college student, in town, or know of someone who is out of high school, but not married yet...tell them about our College and Careers/Young Singles class and our Big Event this Sunday. You can go to my Facebook page and find out more about it!
